Counseling for Suicidal Thoughts in Tampa, FL

If you’re in immediate danger, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room. The 988 Lifeline is free, confidential, and available 24/7.

If you’ve been having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, reaching out takes real courage. We’re glad you’re here.

Suicidal thoughts exist on a spectrum. They can range from a passive sense that you’d be better off not being here to more active thoughts about ending your life. Whatever you’re experiencing, it deserves compassionate, professional support, not judgment.

You’re Not Alone, and This Can Get Better

Suicidal thoughts are nearly always a symptom of something else like depression, trauma, chronic pain, unbearable stress, or a sense that there’s no other way through. They arise from real pain, and in the moment they make a certain internal logic. But they’re not an accurate picture of your future or your options.

The thoughts feel true. They often feel like clear-eyed assessments of reality. They aren’t. They are a short-term response to pain that fails to account for what’s possible over the years ahead.

How We Approach Counseling for Suicidal Thoughts

Our therapists are trained to work directly with clients experiencing suicidal ideation. We don’t shy away from honest conversations about what you’re going through, and we won’t overreact in ways that make it harder to be truthful. We want to actually understand what’s happening so we can actually help.

Initial work focuses on safety planning and reducing immediate risk. From there, approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) have strong evidence for reducing suicidal thoughts and behaviors over time. We work on building real safety, genuine coping skills, and reasons for living, not just rules about crisis plans.

We also closely coordinate with psychiatrists and other providers when appropriate.
